May Highlights at Silver Oaks Care Home – A Month of Remembrance, Celebration, and Community

May was a month full of reflection, celebration and togetherness here at Silver Oaks, as we embraced the changing seasons with a range of meaningful and fun activities for our residents.

VE Day – A Time to Remember

We marked VE Day with a heartfelt afternoon dedicated to remembrance and gratitude. Residents enjoyed a specially themed lunch and raised a toast to honour the bravery and resilience of the generation that lived through the Second World War. Music from Memory Lane lifted spirits, with a cheerful sing-along. The day was filled with a strong sense of community and reflection. Making it a moving and memorable occasion for all.

Spring Bank Holiday Cream Tea

To celebrate the Spring Bank Holiday, we hosted a relaxing cream tea in the garden. With flowers in full bloom and a gentle breeze adding to the charm, residents enjoyed freshly brewed tea alongside a delicious spread of homemade cakes and sandwiches. The tranquil setting made for a perfect afternoon of conversation and companionship. An ideal way to enjoy the long weekend.

Top Marks for Food Hygiene

We’re proud to share that following an unannounced inspection from the Food Standards Agency, we have once again retained our 5 STAR Food Hygiene Rating! This achievement reflects the hard work, care and consistency of our kitchen team, who are dedicated to preparing nutritious, high-quality meals every day for our residents.

Creative Afternoons: Arts & Crafts

This month’s Arts & Crafts session was a peaceful and inspiring experience. Residents spent the afternoon colouring intricate designs while enjoying gentle background music. Activities like this promote fine motor skills, creativity, and relaxation all of which are important for emotional and cognitive wellbeing. It was a lovely way to unwind and express ourselves through colour and design.

Looking Ahead to June

We’re excited about what’s in store for June! Our upcoming calendar includes:

  • Parlour Games & Puzzles
  • Pub Afternoon & Quiz
  • Prize Bingo

These events are designed to encourage connection, laughter and mental stimulation.

A big thank you to all the families, friends, and supporters who continue to enrich life at Silver Oaks. If you have any questions or suggestions about our activities, please don’t hesitate to speak with Kevin - we always welcome your input.

Here’s to another month of joy, community, and meaningful moments together.
