August has been an exciting month at Silver Oaks, with plenty happening both inside the home and out in the local community. Residents have enjoyed a wide variety of activities, from creative sessions and music to community outings and opportunities to make the most of the summer weather.
The month has included plenty of variety, with residents getting involved in our Seaside Theme Month, enjoying visits from entertainers and taking part in activities that have brought everyone together. We've also continued to make the most of our outdoor spaces, while finding plenty of reasons to get creative, socialise and enjoy time together.
One of the main highlights of August was our annual Garden Party, held on Saturday 15th August. This year's event was our busiest Garden Party so far, with residents, families, friends and members of the local community joining us for an afternoon of food, activities and good company.
A huge amount of preparation went into the event, and the hard work from Jo and the Silver Oaks team really paid off. It was fantastic to see the garden filled with familiar faces and to have so many people from the local community come along and support us.
We're delighted to have raised an impressive £353.60, which will be split equally between our Residents' Fund and our chosen charity for the year, Alzheimer's Society.
A huge thank you to everyone who came along, donated and helped make the day such a success. It was a wonderful example of the community spirit that is such an important part of Silver Oaks.
This month we brought a little bit of the seaside indoors with a range of activities as part of our Seaside Theme Month.
Residents got creative decorating seashells, with their finished pieces helping to transform different areas of the home with a coastal feel. We also enjoyed seaside-themed easel painting, giving residents the opportunity to create their own colourful artwork inspired by the coast.
There was even a new resident to introduce – our seagull! We asked everyone to come up with suggestions for his name and received some great ideas. In the end, Cyril was chosen, with Lisa taking the prize for the winning suggestion. Cyril has now found his permanent home at Silver Oaks and has become part of our seaside decorations.
The theme also gave residents plenty of opportunities to reminisce about seaside holidays, days out at the coast and memories of trips to the beach. It's always interesting to hear the stories and experiences that a simple theme can bring back.
Creativity has featured heavily throughout August, with plenty of different arts and crafts activities taking place around the home.
As well as our seaside projects, residents made bee water cups, helping to provide somewhere for bees and other insects to drink during the warmer weather. We also had sessions making and decorating items such as keyrings and personalised coasters, with residents able to choose their own colours and designs.
There have been plenty of opportunities to sit down together, chat and enjoy a relaxing afternoon while working on something creative. With different projects on offer throughout the month, residents have been able to choose activities that appeal to them and put their own individual stamp on their creations.
Music is always popular at Silver Oaks, and we were pleased to welcome Xander and his violin back to the home this month.
Residents thoroughly enjoyed listening to him play and, as always, his visit was warmly received. It was a lovely opportunity to sit back and enjoy live music together, with residents taking time to listen and appreciate the performance.
We're always pleased to welcome musicians and entertainers into the home and look forward to seeing Xander again.
Our residents also became part of the local community this month through the Heather Scarecrow Festival.
After creating our own scarecrow for the event, a group of residents headed out to Heather to find our entry and take a look at the other displays around the village. There was plenty to see, with an impressive range of scarecrows showcasing the creativity and hard work of local residents, businesses and community groups.
Finding our own scarecrow was a particular highlight, and residents were proud to see their creation taking its place amongst the other entries. We stopped at the Village Hall along the way for a packed lunch and a well-earned rest before continuing our walk around the festival.
It was a lovely opportunity to get out into the community, enjoy the surroundings and see the results of an activity that residents had helped to create themselves.
Our August Employee Recognition Award went to Marie Betts, who has been part of the Silver Oaks team for an incredible 10 years.
Marie was nominated by her colleagues for the dedication she continues to show towards our residents. She is always willing to go above and beyond, and is known for bringing a smile and positive attitude to her work.
After a decade at Silver Oaks, Marie remains a valued member of the team, and it was lovely to see her contribution recognised by the people she works alongside every day.

We also welcomed a mobile zoo to Silver Oaks, bringing a fascinating selection of animals for residents to meet. There were rabbits, lizards, snakes, rats and a tortoise to see, giving everyone the opportunity to get up close and learn a little more about each one. The visit gave the residents a chance to meet some rather unusual visitors and share memories of animals they had known over the years.
Alongside these highlights, August has included plenty of the everyday activities that make up life at Silver Oaks. Residents have enjoyed spending time outdoors, taking part in games and activities, getting creative and simply catching up with one another over a cup of tea.
The combination of organised activities, community outings, entertainment and quieter moments means there is always something different happening around the home. Some days are about trying something new, while others are simply about enjoying good company and making the most of the day.
As summer begins to draw towards its final weeks, we're looking forward to everything the coming months will bring. There are already plenty more activities and events to look forward to, and we'll be sharing more of what happens here at Silver Oaks along the way.

July has been another enjoyable month at Silver Oaks, with a wonderful mix of entertainment, community activities and time spent enjoying the summer. From welcoming visiting performers and some very special four-legged guests, to celebrating seasonal events and spending time outdoors, there has been plenty to keep residents active, engaged and smiling throughout the month.
“Silver Oaks was the perfect home for Mum as it wasn’t too clinical and she felt like she was in her own home.” Those words, shared recently by the daughter of one of our residents, perhaps say more about Silver Oaks than any inspection report ever could. They speak to what we have always tried to create here in the heart of Whitwick. Not simply a care home, not an institution,
June has been another enjoyable month at Silver Oaks, with residents making the most of the longer days and warmer weather. The gardens have been busier than ever, with Gardening Club continuing to flourish as residents spent time tending to vegetables, fruit and flowers that are now beginning to thrive. Outdoor picnics and time in the sunshine have also become a regular feature of the week, providing the perfect opportunity to relax, chat and enjoy the fresh air.
May has been another busy month at Silver Oaks, with residents enjoying a varied programme of activities, outings and special events. As the weather has become warmer, there have been more opportunities to spend time outdoors and within the local community, alongside a full calendar of themed celebrations, crafts, baking sessions and entertainment.
April has been a fun and varied month at Silver Oaks, with a number of celebrations and activities taking place across the home. Easter, in particular, provided a good opportunity to bring everyone together through a mix of practical and creative sessions. Residents spent time making chocolate nest cakes, decorating Easter bonnets, creating cards and painting eggs. The results could be seen throughout the home, with displays adding a bit of colour to shared spaces.
As we begin to move into spring, the brighter days and milder weather have been a welcome change around the home. We’ve made the most of the brighter days, with residents enjoying trips out to local shops and coffee spots, as well as spending more time outdoors. Our Gardening Club has also continued to take shape, with residents getting involved in planting seeds and preparing for the months ahead. On the warmer days, simply sitting out and enjoying the sunshine has been just as appreciated.
February has been a full and varied month here at Silver Oaks, with residents taking part in everything from fundraising and themed celebrations to friendly competition and creative projects. There has been a good mix of quieter moments and lively events, giving everyone the chance to get involved in something they enjoy.
The year 2026 has begun on a wonderfully positive note at Silver Oaks Residential Care Home, with January bringing a full calendar of activities, celebrations and meaningful moments. From creative sessions and favourite games to themed celebration days and a relaxing trip out, the month offered plenty of opportunities for residents to socialise, try something new and enjoy time together.
The festive season was in full swing here at Silver Oaks throughout December and the past few weeks have been filled with creativity, laughter and heart-warming moments shared by residents, families, visitors and staff. From decorations to special visitors, it’s been a wonderful time to celebrate all the things that make this season so special.

April was a vibrant and musical month here at Silver Oaks! As spring brought new life outside, our home was full of energy, creativity, and music. We were delighted to celebrate three residents' birthdays this month, each marked with cake, music, and time spent with friends and loved ones. We started the month by celebrating a special birthday with cake, decorations, and plenty of warm wishes. Chinese New Year brought a splash of colour and culture to our home, with themed decorations and a delicious lunch to mark the occasion.

What began as a distant hope turned into a heartwarming journey of discovery, perseverance, and community.

We spoke to our carers about what their life is like working at Silver Oaks, and what their day looks like from the minute they begin, to the second they finish up for the night.
At Silver Oaks, we understand that our boutique, care home is our residents’ home too and we make every effort to ensure your loved ones are looked after and made to feel at home.
This is especially important during the winter season, when the temperature drops and the environment outside gets a lot harsher.
There are a lot of different types of care available, and even more kinds of care homes, all specialising in varied aspects of responsibilities and attention.
One type of care home that can be hugely beneficial to residents is the boutique care home. different from other care homes, like nursing and residential, simply because it’s smaller and provides a more personalised environment. But why should you consider a boutique care home for your loved one and what benefits do they have over the other types of care available.
Everyone is welcome to join us in our beautiful garden on Saturday 4th August. There will be live entertainment, including a theatre production, local craft stalls, games, hot food, raffle, tombola, drinks and delicious homemade cakes. We will be collecting for a chosen charity TBC.
