Autumn arrived at Silver Oaks bringing with it crisp walks, cosy afternoons and plenty of opportunities for creativity and fun. Our residents have been making the most of the season already, whether out in nature collecting treasures or indoors enjoying games, crafts, and sweet treats.
As autumn settled in and the first leaves began to fall, our residents set out on their very first seasonal walk of the year. The crisp air and the vibrant display of red, gold and orange made it a perfect afternoon.
Along the way, they gathered nature’s treasures - pinecones, conkers, and colourful leaves, bringing a little piece of the outdoors back to Silver Oaks. These autumn finds not only made for a wonderful day out but also became the inspiration for creative projects back at the home.
Back at Silver Oaks, the pinecones, leaves and other autumn treasures found on the walk were put to beautiful use. Residents spent a cosy afternoon crafting wreaths to hang on their bedroom doors.
Every wreath was unique, reflecting the creativity and style of its maker. Once finished, they were proudly displayed around the home, brightening the hallways with a warm seasonal charm that everyone could enjoy.
Not every day needs to be busy - sometimes the simplest moments are the sweetest. Residents recently enjoyed a peaceful afternoon together, spending time reading the daily newspapers while the smell of freshly baked jam tarts filled the air.
The homemade treats were a real delight and paired perfectly with cups of tea as everyone settled in for some quiet relaxation. It was a lovely way to slow down, enjoy good company and savour the comforting flavours of autumn.
One of the month’s most popular guests was Brian, a friendly four-legged companion belonging to a member of our care team. Brian joined residents on a sunny trip to the local pub and it wasn’t long before he stole the show.
With his wagging tail and gentle nature, Brian charmed everyone he met. Residents loved having him along and even other pub-goers couldn’t resist stopping by for a pat. What began as a simple outing quickly turned into a heartwarming afternoon filled with smiles and laughter, all thanks to our furry friend.
Residents quickly discovered that balloon tennis was more than just a game - it was a chance to stay active, share plenty of laughter and enjoy some friendly competition. The lounge was filled with cheers as the balloon bounced back and forth, with everyone eager to keep it in the air. It was wonderful to see so many smiles, proving that a simple balloon can bring endless joy.
Residents put their skills to the test with energetic rounds of Jenga, showing off their steady hands. Creativity also had its moment, with residents crafting clay pumpkins and colourful leaf garlands to celebrate the season. These handmade decorations now add a personal touch of autumn cheer throughout the home, making it feel even more warm and welcoming.
As the leaves continue to fall, we look forward to even more moments of togetherness. From music and laughter to quiet afternoons of comfort, this autumn at Silver Oaks is proving to be one filled with warmth and community spirit.

Whether you’re choosing a care home for yourself, or you’re a relative wanting to help your loved one find the perfect place, there are a lot of factors to consider.
You want to find the best possible care home for you or your loved one to reside in, so here’s what you should be looking for when searching for a good care home...
A day in life of a carer at Silver Oaks is never easy but is always rewarding. Our carers put our residents’ health and happiness at the forefront of their working day. Two days working at our boutique care home are never the same.
We spoke to our carers about what their life is like working at Silver Oaks, and what their day looks like from the minute they begin, to the second they finish up for the night.
At Silver Oaks, we understand that our boutique, care home is our residents’ home too and we make every effort to ensure your loved ones are looked after and made to feel at home.
This is especially important during the winter season, when the temperature drops and the environment outside gets a lot harsher.
There are a lot of different types of care available, and even more kinds of care homes, all specialising in varied aspects of responsibilities and attention.
One type of care home that can be hugely beneficial to residents is the boutique care home. different from other care homes, like nursing and residential, simply because it’s smaller and provides a more personalised environment. But why should you consider a boutique care home for your loved one and what benefits do they have over the other types of care available.
Everyone is welcome to join us in our beautiful garden on Saturday 4th August. There will be live entertainment, including a theatre production, local craft stalls, games, hot food, raffle, tombola, drinks and delicious homemade cakes. We will be collecting for a chosen charity TBC.
