June has been another enjoyable month at Silver Oaks, with residents making the most of the longer days and warmer weather. The gardens have been busier than ever, with Gardening Club continuing to flourish as residents spent time tending to vegetables, fruit and flowers that are now beginning to thrive. Outdoor picnics and time in the sunshine have also become a regular feature of the week, providing the perfect opportunity to relax, chat and enjoy the fresh air.
Alongside our outdoor activities, the home has been full of creativity. Residents have enjoyed a variety of arts and crafts sessions, from making colourful seaside-inspired wind ornaments to spending peaceful afternoons colouring intricate designs. These sessions continue to be a favourite, offering the chance to get creative while enjoying good company.
Food has also featured heavily throughout the month, with residents celebrating National Cheese Day with an impressive cheese and wine spread, while other activities included homemade milkshakes to help keep cool during the hot weather and iced tea tasting to mark National Iced Tea Day.
Entertainment has remained an important part of life at Silver Oaks, and it was wonderful to welcome Howard back to the home with his guitar. Residents enjoyed an afternoon filled with familiar songs, singing along, making requests and reminiscing as the music boosted everyones mood.

One of the highlights of the month was celebrating Fred's birthday. Residents and staff came together to make the occasion a special one, with decorations around the home helping to create a festive atmosphere from the moment the celebrations began.
The day included a birthday lunch, thoughtful cards and gifts, and, of course, a large birthday cake shared with friends. Birthdays are always an important occasion at Silver Oaks, providing an opportunity for everyone to come together, celebrate another milestone and ensure each resident feels recognised on their special day.

National Cheese Day gave residents another reason to get together for a relaxed social afternoon. A delicious selection of cheeses was served alongside wine, giving everyone the chance to sample different varieties and discover new favourites.
The event proved to be a real success and demonstrated once again how resident-led social occasions continue to play an important part in life at the home. Whether it's trying something new or simply enjoying familiar favourites, these afternoons are always well received.

This month's Peer Recognition Award was presented to Ann, who has been a valued member of the Silver Oaks team for an incredible 10 years.
Ann was nominated by her colleagues in recognition of her dedication to providing high-quality, person-centred care. Those who work alongside her described her as kind, compassionate and someone who brings positivity wherever she goes. It is always a pleasure to celebrate the people who help make Silver Oaks such a welcoming place, and Ann's award is thoroughly deserved.

While June brought plenty of welcome sunshine, it also saw a few particularly hot days, so we made sure residents had lots of opportunities to stay cool and comfortable. Homemade ice cream milkshakes proved to be a popular treat, while fresh fruit and fruit kebabs offered a refreshing snack throughout the warmer weather.
Residents also enjoyed relaxing foot spa sessions with cool water, providing a chance to unwind while escaping the heat for a while. Whether spending time in the shade outdoors or enjoying refreshing activities indoors, everyone found their own way to make the most of the summer weather while keeping comfortable.

We were delighted to feature in the local newspaper this month in an article reflecting on what makes Silver Oaks such a special place to live and work.
The feature explored the values that sit at the heart of the home, recognising not only our recent 'Good' CQC rating but also the people behind that achievement. It highlighted the importance of creating a place where residents feel at home, families feel welcome and staff are able to provide care with kindness, dignity and respect.
The article also celebrated many of the moments that make Silver Oaks unique, from community events and resident celebrations to the everyday acts of compassion that often happen quietly behind the scenes. It was a wonderful opportunity to recognise the commitment of our team, the support of our families and the remarkable residents who make Silver Oaks the community it is today. This is part one of two - so keep an eye for the next installment coming soon!

One of the month's more unusual celebrations was a surprise hen party for Jane, which brought plenty of smiles to the home. Residents were delighted to join in the occasion, helping to make it a memorable day before Jane's upcoming wedding.
The afternoon included a fun game of Guess the Dress, along with the opportunity for residents to share their own words of advice and well wishes for the bride-to-be. Many enjoyed reminiscing about their own weddings and sharing stories from years gone by.
To round off the celebrations, everyone tucked into a traditional chippy tea from Whitwick Fryer, making it a fitting end to a wonderful afternoon. It was a lovely example of how special milestones are celebrated together at Silver Oaks, bringing residents and staff together to mark life's important occasions.

One type of care home that can be hugely beneficial to residents is the boutique care home. different from other care homes, like nursing and residential, simply because it’s smaller and provides a more personalised environment.
