July at Silver Oaks: Summer Days, Special Celebrations and Time Together

July has been another enjoyable month at Silver Oaks, with a wonderful mix of entertainment, community activities and time spent enjoying the summer. From welcoming visiting performers and some very special four-legged guests, to celebrating seasonal events and spending time outdoors, there has been plenty to keep residents active, engaged and smiling throughout the month.

The warmer days have provided the perfect opportunity to enjoy the garden, where residents have continued to care for our fruit, vegetables and flowers as part of Gardening Club. We also enjoyed coffee mornings outside, complete with dominoes, knitting and even sampling home-grown peas fresh from the garden. One particularly special morning saw us welcome children from a local nursery for a Teddy Bear Picnic, bringing together different generations for a lovely community event.

Music has once again been a big part of life at Silver Oaks. We were delighted to welcome the Memory Lane Duo back to the home, with residents singing along to familiar songs, dancing and enjoying an afternoon filled with laughter and happy memories. We also embraced the excitement of the football tournament, decorating the home with flags and enjoying themed activities and match screenings together as residents got behind the competition.

There have been plenty of simple pleasures too, from sharing ice creams in the sunshine to welcoming some very special animal visitors. Residents loved meeting adorable guinea pigs and one-week-old baby goats, with the visit prompting many conversations as they reminisced about pets and farm animals they had cared for over the years. Moments like these continue to create lasting memories and bring plenty of smiles to everyone at Silver Oaks.

Evening Soirée

One of the social highlights of the month was our Evening Soirée, which offered something a little different from our usual activities. Residents enjoyed spending a relaxed summer evening together with music, refreshments and conversation in a welcoming atmosphere. It proved to be a lovely way to round off the day and was enjoyed by everyone who attended.

Celebrating Linda's Birthday

Birthdays are always an important occasion at Silver Oaks, and this month it was Linda's turn to celebrate.

Residents and staff came together to make sure the day was a special one, with birthday decorations helping to set the scene for the celebrations. Linda received thoughtful cards and gifts, before everyone gathered to enjoy a birthday cake together.

These occasions are always about much more than the cake and presents. They provide an opportunity for residents, friends and staff to celebrate another milestone and create happy memories that everyone can share.

Wimbledon Arrives at Silver Oaks

The excitement of Wimbledon wasn't confined to Centre Court this year, as residents got involved with the famous tennis tournament here at Silver Oaks. Inlcuding celebrating with strawberies and cream.

The home embraced the championships with tennis-themed activities and plenty of conversation about favourite players, memorable matches and years gone by. Major sporting events often bring people together, and Wimbledon provided another opportunity for residents to enjoy a shared experience while following one of Britain's best-loved sporting traditions.

Recognising Our Team

We're also delighted to congratulate Jane, who was named our July Employee Recognition Award winner.

Having worked at Silver Oaks for many years in a variety of roles, Jane is now one of our dedicated housekeeping team. Her commitment to maintaining a clean, welcoming and comfortable home for residents has earned the respect and appreciation of both colleagues and residents alike.

Nominated by her peers, Jane was recognised for her consistently high standards, strong work ethic and willingness to go above and beyond in her role. Although much of her work happens behind the scenes, it plays an essential part in ensuring Silver Oaks continues to feel like home for everyone who lives here.

Silver Oaks Featured in the Local Press Once Again

We were pleased to appear in the local newspaper for a second time this year, this time with an article exploring the fascinating history of the Silver Oaks building.

Many people know us simply as a residential care home, but the former Old Vicarage has been part of Whitwick's story for generations. The feature looked back at the building's heritage, its significance within the local community and the role it continues to play today as a place where residents feel at home.

It was a wonderful opportunity to share a little of Silver Oaks' history while celebrating the people who continue to make the home such a special place today. If you missed the articles you can read them online here.

Looking Ahead

As July draws to a close, we're looking forward to everything August has in store. With more activities, outings, celebrations and seasonal events already in the diary, there is plenty to look forward to over the coming weeks.

Thank you to everyone who helps make Silver Oaks such a welcoming and vibrant community. From residents and families to our dedicated team, every contribution helps create the friendly atmosphere that makes the home so special. We look forward to sharing more stories and highlights with you again next month.

Silver Oaks Article in Coalville Times

“Silver Oaks was the perfect home for Mum as it wasn’t too clinical and she felt like she was in her own home.” Those words, shared recently by the daughter of one of our residents, perhaps say more about Silver Oaks than any inspection report ever could. They speak to what we have always tried to create here in the heart of Whitwick. Not simply a care home, not an institution,
