As autumn arrived at Silver Oaks, there was plenty to keep our residents busy, with seasonal crafts, delicious food, special visitors and some lovely days out. Our residents always enjoy seeing the home change with the seasons, and autumn was no exception!
We wasted no time getting into the spirit of things, adding autumnal touches around the home and filling our surroundings with warm seasonal colours. From decorating the home to making our own autumn door wreaths, there were plenty of opportunities to get creative and make the home feel cosy.
Alongside our autumn activities, we enjoyed a varied month of baking, outings, live music and reminiscence, with a few four-legged and rather unusual visitors making things especially interesting!
With the arrival of autumn, our arts and crafts sessions took on a seasonal theme. Residents got involved in decorating the home, bringing in the rich colours associated with this time of year and helping to create a cosy autumn feel throughout Silver Oaks.
One of the creative activities was making our own autumn door wreaths. Everyone had the opportunity to create something individual, choosing their own designs and decorative touches. Each wreath had its own character, and it was lovely to see the finished creations displayed around the home.
Seasonal crafts are a great way to try something different, spend time together and enjoy a little creativity. Our residents were more than happy to embrace autumn, and their decorations have helped give Silver Oaks a fresh seasonal feel.

One of the highlights of the month was our trip to Twycross Zoo, where residents enjoyed a wonderful day out exploring the zoo and seeing the animals.
There is something special about getting out of the home for a change of scenery, and the trip gave everyone the chance to enjoy the surroundings, discover different animals and spend time together away from the usual daily routine.
It was a thoroughly enjoyable day. Whether taking in the sights, watching the animals or simply enjoying being out together, it was a day that gave us lots to talk about afterwards.
Our outings are made possible in large part by the money raised for our Residents’ Fund. This fund helps us organise experiences and special days out that residents can look forward to, and trips like this are a lovely example of what those contributions help us achieve.
A huge thank you to everyone who supports our fundraising efforts, along with the staff and volunteers who gave their time to make the day possible. Your support helps us continue creating opportunities for residents to enjoy new experiences and make memories.

September continued to be a month with lots of animals - this time we didn't have to travel far to meet some fascinating animals, as we welcomed Sam from The Mobile Mini Zoo to Silver Oaks!
Sam arrived with a wonderful selection of animal visitors, including a tortoise, bearded dragon, rat, rabbit and snakes. Residents had the opportunity to see the animals up close, learn more about them and, where appropriate, gently stroke them.
The visit brought plenty of interest and conversation, with everyone able to take a closer look at creatures they might not normally encounter. Each animal offered something different to discover, and Sam helped residents learn more about their characteristics and habits.
Animal visits can also be a lovely way to encourage reminiscence. Meeting the animals prompted opportunities to share stories and memories of pets, wildlife and animals residents had known throughout their lives.
It was a fascinating afternoon - A big thank you to Sam for bringing The Mobile Mini Zoo to Silver Oaks and giving our residents the chance to enjoy such an interesting visit.

We were also fortunate to have the Royal Mint Museum Reminiscence Box on loan at Silver Oaks this month, giving residents and staff the opportunity to explore a collection of items and learn about their history.
The box provided a wonderful starting point for conversations about the past. As residents looked through the items, there were opportunities to exchange stories and reflect on how things have changed over the years.
Objects can often bring back memories that might not otherwise come up in everyday conversation, and give residents the time and space to share their experiences with others.
We would like to thank the Royal Mint Museum for making this resource available to our residents. It was a valuable opportunity to explore history in a hands-on way and enjoy sharing memories together.

Our Baking Club continued to be a popular activity, with residents getting involved in preparing some tasty treats during the month.
First up were mini pizzas, giving everyone the chance to choose their own toppings and create a pizza to suit their tastes. From spreading on the base ingredients to adding their favourite toppings, residents could put their own combinations together before the pizzas were cooked and enjoyed fresh from the oven.
It was a fun way to bring everyone together in the kitchen, with plenty of choice and the anticipation of tasting the finished results!
We also made no-bake strawberry cheesecakes. This was a lovely opportunity to get involved in preparing a dessert without needing to use the oven. Residents helped with the different stages of preparation before adding the finishing touches to their cheesecakes.
Of course, one of the best parts of baking is getting to enjoy what you've made, and both sessions gave residents something delicious to look forward to.
From savoury mini pizzas to sweet strawberry cheesecake, our kitchen activities offered a good mix of flavours and gave everyone the chance to take part in creating something from scratch.

There was also time to celebrate a special occasion this month, as we marked Pam's birthday with a cheese and wine evening at Silver Oaks.
Residents came together to enjoy a selection of cheeses and treats, accompanied by a glass of wine and plenty of good conversation. The relaxed setting gave everyone the chance to sit back, relax and spend time together while celebrating Pam's special day.
Birthday celebrations are always a lovely opportunity to bring people together, and this was a simple but enjoyable way to mark the occasion.
Happy birthday, Pam! We hope you had a wonderful day.

Residents enjoyed a creative flower-arranging session, choosing and arranging flowers to create their own colourful displays. It was a lovely opportunity to experiment with different colours and combinations, and add a fresh touch of nature to the home. Everyone enjoyed putting their own stamp on their arrangement, with the finished displays bringing a little extra colour and brightness to Silver Oaks.

This month, we are pleased to recognise Marie, our long-serving housekeeper, who has received our Employee Recognition Award in appreciation of the hard work and dedication she brings to Silver Oaks.
Marie takes great pride in her role and works consistently hard to ensure the home is kept spotless and maintained to a high standard. Her attention to detail helps create a clean, comfortable and welcoming environment for our residents, as well as for the families, friends and visitors who come through our doors.

Music remained an important part of our activities, and we enjoyed visits from two familiar entertainers during the month.
Howard joined us with his guitar for an afternoon of live music. Residents had the chance to sit back and enjoy the performance in a relaxed setting, with the familiar sounds of the guitar providing a pleasant way to spend time together.
We also welcomed Karl the singer, whose session soon had residents joining in and singing along to well-known favourites. There was plenty of participation and enjoyment as everyone got into the spirit of the music.
Alongside our musical sessions, residents took part in a seated exercise session. These activities provide an opportunity to keep moving, practise gentle exercises and enjoy being active together in a way that can be adapted to individual abilities.
From live music and sing-alongs to gentle movement, we continued to offer a variety of activities to suit different interests and encourage residents to take part in the ways they enjoy most.

From welcoming autumn and making seasonal decorations to a memorable trip to Twycross Zoo, our visit from the Mobile Mini Zoo and the chance to explore the Royal Mint Museum Reminiscence Box, it has been a month full of variety at Silver Oaks.
We've also enjoyed plenty of time in the kitchen, celebrated Pam's birthday, marked Curry Week and made room for music, singing and exercise along the way.
What makes these activities so enjoyable is the opportunity they provide for residents to try something different, share experiences and spend time together. Whether it's a day out, a special visitor, a favourite song or something delicious made in the kitchen, there is always something for residents to look forward to.

You want to find the best possible care home for you or your loved one to reside in, so here’s what you should be looking for when searching for a good care home...
A day in life of a carer at Silver Oaks is never easy but is always rewarding. Our carers put our residents’ health and happiness at the forefront of their working day. Two days working at our boutique care home are never the same.
We spoke to our carers about what their life is like working at Silver Oaks, and what their day looks like from the minute they begin, to the second they finish up for the night.
At Silver Oaks, we understand that our boutique, care home is our residents’ home too and we make every effort to ensure your loved ones are looked after and made to feel at home.
This is especially important during the winter season, when the temperature drops and the environment outside gets a lot harsher.
There are a lot of different types of care available, and even more kinds of care homes, all specialising in varied aspects of responsibilities and attention.
One type of care home that can be hugely beneficial to residents is the boutique care home. different from other care homes, like nursing and residential, simply because it’s smaller and provides a more personalised environment. But why should you consider a boutique care home for your loved one and what benefits do they have over the other types of care available.
