As we begin to move into spring, the brighter days and milder weather have been a welcome change around the home. We’ve made the most of the brighter days, with residents enjoying trips out to local shops and coffee spots, as well as spending more time outdoors. Our Gardening Club has also continued to take shape, with residents getting involved in planting seeds and preparing for the months ahead. On the warmer days, simply sitting out and enjoying the sunshine has been just as appreciated.

This month has been full of a range of food-focused activities, offering both a chance to get involved and something to enjoy at the end of it. Residents baked banana bread from scratch, decorated colourful biscuits and took part in mocktail and cocktail-making sessions, trying out different combinations in a relaxed setting.
As part of Nutrition and Hydration Week, we focused on healthier options, making fresh fruit kebabs and holding a “guess the fruit” quiz. These sessions provided a good balance of participation and enjoyment, encouraging residents to try something different while keeping things light and sociable.

A well-deserved congratulations goes to Ami Cooke, who was recognised as part of our February Colleague Recognition. Ami has made a strong impact in her role within Activities, bringing enthusiasm, creativity and a positive approach to the home.
She received a number of thoughtful messages from colleagues, highlighting the difference she makes on a daily basis. The recognition scheme is about acknowledging the contribution of staff across the home, and Ami is a great example of the energy and commitment that supports day-to-day life at Silver Oaks.

St Patrick’s Day was marked with a full programme of themed activities. The morning began with a lively game of bingo, followed by a scavenger hunt around the home as residents searched for the hidden pot of gold. Both activities brought plenty of friendly competition and a good sense of involvement.
For those who preferred something quieter, a themed word search was available. The day was rounded off with a St Patrick’s themed tea. It was an enjoyable way to mark the occasion, with a good mix of activity and time to relax.

Mother’s Day provided an opportunity to welcome families into the home for a relaxed afternoon of tea and cake. The lounge was set up to create a comfortable space for residents and their loved ones to spend time together.
It was a simple but important occasion, with plenty of conversation, shared moments and time to catch up. Days like this continue to be valued by both residents and families, offering a chance to come together.

Residents also enjoyed a trip out to Coalville. The outing gave everyone a chance to get out of the home, browse the shops and enjoy a change of scenery, which is always well received.
Back at Silver Oaks, we marked British Science Week with a hands-on activity, creating our own lava lamps. Watching the colours shift and move proved surprisingly engaging, and the session prompted plenty of interest and conversation. It was a simple activity, but one that offered something a little different.

At Silver Oaks, we understand that our boutique, care home is our residents’ home too and we make every effort to ensure your loved ones are looked after and made to feel at home.
This is especially important during the winter season, when the temperature drops and the environment outside gets a lot harsher.
There are a lot of different types of care available, and even more kinds of care homes, all specialising in varied aspects of responsibilities and attention.
One type of care home that can be hugely beneficial to residents is the boutique care home. different from other care homes, like nursing and residential, simply because it’s smaller and provides a more personalised environment. But why should you consider a boutique care home for your loved one and what benefits do they have over the other types of care available.
