The year 2026 has begun on a wonderfully positive note at Silver Oaks Residential Care Home, with January bringing a full calendar of activities, celebrations and meaningful moments. From creative sessions and favourite games to themed celebration days and a relaxing trip out, the month offered plenty of opportunities for residents to socialise, try something new and enjoy time together.
Our activity programme has been busy, with residents taking part in arts and crafts, quizzes, games and our ever-popular coffee mornings. These regular activities provide both enjoyment and routine, while also encouraging conversation and connection throughout the home.
Bingo remains one of the most anticipated activities at Silver Oaks and January’s sessions did not disappoint. Residents gathered for friendly competition and plenty of good-natured humour. Whether calling out numbers or cheering on friends, the atmosphere was lively, making bingo a great way to bring everyone together.

Australia Day brought colour and fun to the home as the lounge was decorated with Australian flags and cheerful koala bears. Residents joined in with themed games, including a ring-toss challenge using a blow-up cactus, which proved to be a firm favourite. With music playing and lots of smiles around the room, it was a relaxed and enjoyable celebration for everyone involved.


Burns Night was marked with a cosy and cultural celebration, giving residents the chance to enjoy Scottish traditions. A themed meal was served alongside traditional music, with readings of poetry adding a special touch to the evening. The celebration encouraged conversation and a shared appreciation of Scottish heritage.



One of the highlights of the month was a trip out to a local coffee shop. Residents enjoyed the change of scenery as they relaxed with warm drinks and sweet treats. Outings like these offer a lovely opportunity to connect with the local community and enjoy everyday pleasures in a relaxed setting.

Our arts and crafts sessions have been a lovely way for residents to relax, express themselves and enjoy time together. Throughout the month, residents took part in a range of creative projects, including making heart-shaped door hangings using wool and a variety of decorative materials. Using colour, texture and imagination, everyone enjoyed bringing their designs to life. Arts and crafts continue to be a calming and enjoyable activity, offering both a sense of achievement and a chance to unwind.


Our regular coffee mornings and games sessions continue to be a much-loved part of life at Silver Oaks. Residents enjoy gathering together over a warm drinks and biscuits, while taking part in a variety of games and quizzes. These relaxed sessions create a welcoming atmosphere and offer a lovely opportunity to socialise.


We were delighted to welcome Xander back into the home, who treated residents to a beautiful musical session on his violin. The gentle melodies created a calming atmosphere, with residents listening, tapping along as familiar tunes filled the room. It was a truly lovely afternoon and one that was thoroughly enjoyed by all.

As we look back on a busy start to the year, we’d like to thank our residents, families, friends and staff for their ongoing support. Your involvement plays an important role in daily life at the home and helps us continue to create a positive and supportive environment. We look forward to the months ahead and to sharing more moments together throughout 2026.

We spoke to our carers about what their life is like working at Silver Oaks, and what their day looks like from the minute they begin, to the second they finish up for the night.
At Silver Oaks, we understand that our boutique, care home is our residents’ home too and we make every effort to ensure your loved ones are looked after and made to feel at home.
This is especially important during the winter season, when the temperature drops and the environment outside gets a lot harsher.
There are a lot of different types of care available, and even more kinds of care homes, all specialising in varied aspects of responsibilities and attention.
One type of care home that can be hugely beneficial to residents is the boutique care home. different from other care homes, like nursing and residential, simply because it’s smaller and provides a more personalised environment. But why should you consider a boutique care home for your loved one and what benefits do they have over the other types of care available.
Everyone is welcome to join us in our beautiful garden on Saturday 4th August. There will be live entertainment, including a theatre production, local craft stalls, games, hot food, raffle, tombola, drinks and delicious homemade cakes. We will be collecting for a chosen charity TBC.
