Silver Oaks Residential Care Home
A home from home
Once the home of William Wordsworth’s son, who was the local parson for a few years, Silver Oaks Residential Care Home is a charming and intimately characterful home.
Situated on the edge of the Charnwood Forest, our lovely Grade II listed thatched home is a peaceful place in the heart of Whitwick village in Leicestershire. With access to local shops and facilities and close to the town of Coalville, Silver Oaks provides personalised care to suit your loved one's specific needs.
Care and Facilities
At Silver Oaks we understand that this is our residents home and we make every effort to ensure your loved ones are looked after and made to feel at home. We have 19 single rooms, the majority having en-suite w.c. facilities and all are furnished with the latest technology to make the residents stay more comfortable and providing staff more time to provide care. Residents have access to a quiet room, TV lounge, dining room and beautiful garden where we grow our own vegetables, potter in the greenhouse and enjoy lovely summer days under the cover of our magnificent marquee!
Activities at the heart of care
The ethos at Silver Oaks is very much focused around quality of life, and activities both grand or seemingly insignificant can provide a great deal of enjoyment or inner peace. Activities might well be a simple dedicated chat or something more exciting like a trip to the seaside! Whichever it is, our kindhearted and thoughtful activities coordinator Julie has a great sense of what will make each residents life more fulfilled, respecting privacy, promoting independence and trying her best to make the day to day more enjoyable as the challenges of old age fight on.
Food Glorious Food
Food plays an important part of our residents day and as such we have an award winning cook who provides guaranteed nutrition, an outstanding choice of extremely tasty food options and a large degree of flexibility to cater for any dietary needs. A full English breakfast is available every day, along with daily fresh cakes and we make sure that fish on Fridays is cooked to perfection! We welcome food tastings to all our residents and families before they arrive so you can taste the wonderful dishes and if you’re lucky Vicky might give you a cake to take away!

I would like to thank you all for making my Dad feel so welcome. He would always say when I collected him 'what lovely staff and food'.
My Grandfather stayed for a two week visit. What a lovely home. The atmosphere and homely feel is very refreshing. The staff are all very approachable and friendly. Other homes should all aspire to this standard.

Silver Oaks provides an extremely safe and secure environment for the residents. The staff are committed, friendly and hardworking and the result is a 'home from home' atmosphere.
Silver Oaks provides an extremely safe and secure environment for the residents. The staff are committed, friendly and hardworking and the result is a 'home from home' atmosphere. They go over and above what could be thought of as covering basic requirements and individual requests and needs are always catered for.
The home is always clean and smells fresh. The residents' clothing and bedding are washed regularly and as items are labelled, they do not end up wearing other peoples' clothes; an important consideration when you have had to move away from home and looking after yourself.
The residents are very well fed. Meals are regular and well presented. Individual requests are always met willingly and the cook is excellent.
Being situated in a listed building does present a few problems but the staff work hard to overcome them but there can occasionally be an issue with mobility around the building that would not be encountered in a purpose-built home.
Overall - excellent care
Very pleased with the care my dad receives, he is very happy. The staff are brilliant at their jobs and really look after him. I would definitely recommend Silver Oaks Care Home to anyone thinking about putting a relative into care.
As a family, we are very happy with the love and care given to our mother. The atmosphere is friendly and homely. Her needs are met and dealt with quickly and professionally.
One of the worst things my sister and myself have ever had to so was to see our mum go into a care home due to suffering from dementia. However, one of the best things we ever did was to find Silver Oaks, where we are always made very welcome.
One of the worst things my sister and myself have ever had to do was to see our mum go into a care home due to suffering from dementia. However, one of the best things we ever did was to find Silver Oaks, where we are always made very welcome. Happiness, love and a calming contentment can be felt in every part of the home due to the wonderful staff who are always happy to give that little bit extra. Maybe a chat, a smile, a cup of tea, a reassuring hug, anything to make their residents feel "at home", safe, secure and cared for. Little things mean a lot and staff always have time for the little things that make Silver Oaks so special. Residents are treated with respect as individuals given choices with dignity being maintained at all times. A home in a million.
Excellent care provided. Care staff excellent and management. Food is very good and staff meet individual needs and preferences.

My mum was in Silveroaks for two and a half years until she passed away on 6th August 2017. During this time her care was always first class as is the home. The staff are very caring and professional in every way and couldn't do enough for my mum. We were made very welcome every time we came to see mum often we would have tea with mum and fantastic cakes. Every event was catered for birthdays they all had a special tea etc Xmas was a wonderland itself with presents from the staff even Maypole dancing. We have made many friends there and will continue to support the home on their event days. This is not just a care home its a HOME in every way I can't say thank you enough for looking after my mum well done everyone.
I can thoroughly recommend this residential home. They offer a high standard of care throughout and the staff are both extremely helpful and caring...
I can thoroughly recommend this residential home. They offer a high standard of care throughout and the staff are both extremely helpful and caring. When I needed to place my mother in a residential home a year ago, I was quite concerned about what was out there, and whilst a number of places I visited were quite good, this was the last place and I quickly realized this was the place for my Mum. I have no regrets about moving my mother in and feel she is looked after to a very high standard. If you are seeking such a place please do give it a viewing.
